The differences between a machine shop and a tool & die shop are simply this; a machine shop typically does high volumes of parts with more generous tolerances and a tool & die shop does just one or a few of an item to very tight tolerances. Tight tolerance items could be an injection mold, or a die which could then be used to produce larger quantities of parts by a molding or punching process.
